• Designed and manufactured in the Czech Republic
🛠️ Engineered Specifically for the MX-5
The Tuning3D intake was developed as a properly engineered alternative to universal short intake kits and DIY silicone elbow conversions.
A short and direct intake path helps reduce unnecessary intake volume and provides fast throttle response. However, a simple silicone elbow does not properly solve sensor mounting, PCV connection, filter clearance, engine movement or long-term durability.
This intake combines all required connections into one compact system designed specifically around the limited space inside the Mazda MX-5 NB and NBFL engine bay.
The main ASA intake elbow provides a smooth airflow path between the MAF sensor and throttle body, while the flexible TPU couplers absorb vibration, engine movement and clamp loads.
The couplers also allow the intake to be installed and removed repeatedly without placing unnecessary stress on the rigid intake body.
🌡️ Proper IAT Sensor Mounting
The original intake air temperature sensor is retained using a dedicated sealed mounting point.
A silicone O-ring provides the seal, while a high-strength PAHT-CF retaining nut secures the sensor in position.
The sensor is positioned directly in the incoming airflow while creating minimal obstruction inside the intake tract.
💨 Modular PCV Connection
The intake includes a modular M16×1.5 PCV port.
The port can be configured using:
• The included PCV hose fitting
• The included sealing plug
• Compatible aftermarket fittings
The internal opening has been redesigned so that only a small passage enters the main intake tract, helping reduce unnecessary airflow disturbance around the PCV connection.
The supplied plug may also be modified for certain custom sensor installations. Any modification is performed entirely at the installer’s own responsibility.
🔩 Durable Multi-Material Construction
Each component is manufactured from a material selected for its specific function.
• ASA – main intake elbow
• TPU – flexible MAF and throttle body couplers
• PAHT-CF – IAT retaining nut, PCV fitting and sealing plug
• Silicone – PCV hose and sensor O-ring
• Stainless steel – four main coupler clamps
• Steel – smaller PCV hose clamps
The main intake body is printed in an orientation optimized for mechanical strength and long-term durability.
The flexible TPU couplers significantly reduce the mechanical stress transferred to the rigid intake body compared with directly clamping onto a printed component.
⚙️ Available Configurations
The intake can be ordered in several configurations.
Original Throttle Body
Includes the TPU coupler required for the original Mazda throttle body.
Original + 64 mm Throttle Body
Includes the original throttle body coupler plus an additional coupler for selected 64 mm aftermarket throttle bodies, including commonly used Skunk2-style and similar designs.
Intake Without Filter
Choose this option if you already own a compatible air filter.
Intake With Ramair Filter
Complete package with a matched Ramair performance air filter.
Intake With GReddy Filter
Complete package with a premium GReddy air filter.
Filter compatibility depends on the vehicle headlight type and whether the optional Velocity Stack is installed. Please read the compatibility information below before ordering.
🔧 Filter Compatibility
The Mazda MX-5 NB and NBFL use different headlight shapes, which affects the available space for the air filter.
Configuration 1: Filter Mounted Directly to the MAF
When mounting the filter directly onto the MAF sensor, use a filter with a 70 mm inlet.
Pre-Facelift MX-5 NB / NB1 — 1998–2000
• Recommended maximum filter length: approximately 140–145 mm
• A 150 mm filter may fit very tightly but is not recommended for guaranteed clearance
• Always verify the actual filter dimensions before ordering
Facelift MX-5 NBFL — 2001–2005
• Larger headlight clearance
• Filters up to approximately 160 mm can normally be used
• Always verify the actual filter dimensions before ordering
Configuration 2: Optional Velocity Stack
The optional Tuning3D Velocity Stack improves the airflow entry into the MAF sensor by creating a smoother transition from the filter into the intake.
It can also provide a more aggressive intake sound and helps use a larger filter inlet area.
The Velocity Stack requires a filter with an approximately 152 mm mounting flange.
Available here:
Velocity Stack Upgrade for Cold Air Intake
Pre-Facelift MX-5 NB / NB1 — 1998–2000
Use:
Ramair PR-CC-193-150
The larger PR-CC-194-150 does not provide sufficient clearance with the original NB1 headlights.
Facelift MX-5 NBFL — 2001–2005
Use:
Ramair PR-CC-194-150
This also applies to cars fitted with NBFL-style aftermarket headlights where sufficient clearance is available.
The Velocity Stack itself is compatible with both NB and NBFL models. The correct filter must be selected according to the installed headlight type.
📦 What Is Included
• 1× ASA intake elbow
• 1× TPU MAF coupler
• 1× TPU original throttle body coupler
• 1× additional 64 mm throttle body coupler when selected
• 4× stainless steel coupler clamps
• 1× PAHT-CF PCV fitting
• 1× PAHT-CF PCV sealing plug

📘 Installation
The intake is designed as a fully reversible plug-and-play upgrade.
• No cutting
• No drilling
• No permanent modification of original vehicle parts
• No ECU tuning required
The original intake system can be reinstalled later if required.
Do not overtighten the clamps or threaded components. Tighten only enough to create a secure connection and reliable seal.
🏁 Development and Performance
The previous-generation Tuning3D intake was dyno tested on a stock Mazda MX-5 NB 1.8 BP4W.
The test recorded a peak gain of 3.8 wheel horsepower, approximately 2.6%, with no measured power loss elsewhere in the tested RPM range.
The V3 intake has not yet been separately dyno tested. It uses the same short-intake development experience but introduces a redesigned modular construction, different materials and improved durability.
No specific power increase is therefore claimed for the V3 until dedicated testing has been completed.
